#Autumn Readathon

To Be Read Pile:
#AutumnReadathon

Today I am bringing you guys my reading list for the upcoming readathon hosted by MercysBookishMusings on YouTube, in honor of her reaching 30k subscribers. This readathon is tailored around the theme of Autumn, which is her favorite season, and some of her favorite reading genres and settings. Though this readathon could not be more poorly placed for my participation, I endeavor to complete all of the challenges regardless.

Start Date: Sunday October 22nd
End Date: Saturday October 28th

Through this week of reading there are going to be four main challenges and two bonus challenges. At the very least I will finish the four major challenges. The challenges which Mercedes has laid out for this readathon include:

1. Read a gothic/spooky book.
2. Read a non-fiction book that feels autumnal (I'm classing this as nature writing or cold location travel writing/memoir).
3. Read a novel set in a cold location. 4. Read a historical fiction novel.
Bonus challenges:
1. Read a short story collection.
2. Read a book with a young female protagonist.

These challenges encompass everything that we all love about the Autumnal weather and season, though they have a very distinctly Mercedes twist. I cannot wait to begin reading for this week, I have found books that tie into each challenge as well as are ones that Mercedes has loved. My to be read pile for the upcoming week:
  • The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by: Joanna Cannon
    • This book completes the challenge of number 4, and the bonus challenge of reading a book with a young female protagonist. This book was one that I initially saw Mercedes gush about on her channel late last year, and I am eager to see why she loved it so much!
    • Page Count: 453
    • Goodreads Link: The Trouble with Goats and Sheep
  • The Dumb House by: John Burnside
    • This covers challenge number one, to read a gothic and spooky book. This is yet another that Mercedes and many other booktubers loved a few years ago. The story follows a man who is obsessed with language and the souls of humans and the chaos that ensues.
    • Page Count: 204
    • Goodreads Link: The Dumb House
  • The Bloody Chamber by: Angela Carter
    • This is a collection of short stories which completes bonus challenge number one. This is a collection of fairytale retellings that have a macabre twist.
    • Page Count: 126
    • Goodreads Link: The Bloody Chamber
  • A Summer of Drowning by: John Burnside
    • This novel completes challenge number three, reading a book set in a cold location. This book takes place on an island in the Arctic Circle, you cannot get much colder than that. This is yet another book I have seen many booktubers speaking about over the years, such as Jen Campbell; all love it.
    • Page Count: 328
    • Goodreads Link: A Summer of Drowning
  • How to Hygge: The Secrets to Nordic Living by: Signe Johansen
    • This nonfiction book completes the challenge of reading a nonfiction book set around autumnal themes. Hygge is the Danish art of comfort and relaxation, I cannot think of anything more cozy and autumnal to read.
    • Page Count: 194
    • Goodreads Link: How to Hygge
Total Page Count: 1,305

This week of reading is going to be a challenge, but I am excited to dive into novels written by authors which I have never read before! Anyone reading this should join in!

Happy Reading!
